Memorial Walk/Brides’ March

Gathering begins at 8:00AM at: Fort Washington Heights Presbyterian Church 21 Wadsworth Avenue, Washington Heights, NY (Corner of 174 Street)

Opening Ceremony begins at 9:00AM

Marching Begins at 10 AM Sharp

2009 Route

First Leg

• Starting from the Church/Wadsworth Avenue to the corner of 174^th Street
• Turn Right and across onto the west sidewalk of Broadway
• Broadway (southbound) to 155 Street
• Turn Left/eastbound onto 155 Street
• Onto and across the 155 Street Bridge to 154 Street
• Turn Left and cross the street into the Colonel Charles Young Triangle Park

Second Leg After 5 minute water break and regrouping in the park

• Walk through the park, turn Right/Southbound and walk to the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Blvd and 153 Street
• Turn Left/Eastbound and cross Adam Clayton Powell Blvd
• Turn Left/Northbound into and over the Macomb’s Dam Bridge to 161 Street
• Turn Right onto 161 Street and walk Eastbound to Grand Concourse (Estimated time of arrival: 11:15am) (Approximately 2.2 miles)

The Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz, Jr. will welcome the marchers and the families of the victims, and will hold a press conference followed by a lunch break (This stop will take approximately 40 minutes)

Marching Resumes at 12Noon Sharp!

Third Leg

• Southbound on Grand Concourse to
• 149 Street and turn Left/Eastbound to
• Third Avenue and turn Right/Southbound to
• 139 Street and cross back onto Third Ave
• Turn Left/Southbound on Third Ave into and over
• The Third Avenue Bridge to Lexington Avenue
• Cross onto 129 Street/Westbound (Approximately 2.6 miles)

Fourth Leg After 5 minute water break and regrouping at 129 Street

• Continue on 129 Street/Westbound to
• Park Avenue and cross the street
• Turn Left/Southbound on Park Avenue to
• 125^th Street
• Turn Right/Westbound to
• Harlem State Building Plaza/Adam Clayton Powell Blvd (Estimated arrival: 1pm)

Fifth Leg Water break, regrouping and possible brief program

Marching Resumes at 1:30pm Sharp!

• From the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Blvd cross 125 Street
• Turn Left/Eastbound on 125 Street and walk to
• Lexington Avenue
• Turn Right/Southbound onto Lexington to
• 101 Street and turn Right into the
• Children’s Aid Society East Harlem Community Center (Estimated time of arrival: 2pm)

Total estimated miles: 6.7

The 2009 Brides’ March will end at: The Children’s Aid Society’s East Harlem Community Center—130 East 101 Street between Lexington and Park Avenue.

The Community Center’s doors will open at 1pm and the marchers are expected to arrive at approximately 2pm. The closing ceremony will begin at approximately 3pm and concludes at approximately 4pm

Disclosure: March will not walk against traffic; marchers must abide by street traffic rules and walk on the sidewalk at all times—unless otherwise indicated by NYPD.
